Back on July 6th, Fr. Schlaline preached about exorcisms and referred to a book by a well-respected priest-psychologist who has become an exorcist. His reflections regarding Halloween are interesting and worth pondering. See full article.

Sacred Heart Basilica has won a prestigious award for our interior restoration project completed through the generosity and support of you- our parishioners and benefactors. Preservation Pennsylvania has selected the project for their Construction Award for Restoration! “A landmark of American Catholic history, the Basilica underwent an extraordinary restoration to uncover and conserve its 19th-century Baroque interior, including the largest historic paint exposure the conservation team had ever encountered. The work restored original decorative painting, fine art, woodwork, marble altars, and illusionistic artistry – reviving the sacred space’s spiritual and artistic power” (quoted from Preservation Pennsylvania’s Monthly E-Newsletter July 29, 2025).Our achievement will recognized at a special ceremony in Pittsburgh on October 16th-- interestingly-- the feast of Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque.

The Saint Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School community has received the news of the departure of our principal Mr. David Staub with mixed emotion. We are certainly sad to no longer have him as our principal. However, the logic of his move to Delone is solid and it is certain that he will continue to be of benefit to our school community even if indirectly- but now as principal of Delone Catholic High School.
Since the announcement was made in April, the search for a new principal is quite different from the search we conducted in 2022. Our community has experienced three years of dynamism: increased enrollment, a boost in morale, greater financial stability, and greater levels of student success. Three amazing candidates have applied this year. Each of the three candidates is unique in her talents and charisms. We are grateful to all three for presenting themselves for service to the community in this unique way.
Saint Teresa of Calcutta School is pleased to announce Mrs. Lauren College as the new principal effective July 1, 2025. Mrs. College is not a stranger to our community. She currently lives in McSherrystown and has children enrolled in our school. She has served as Vice Principal of Saint John’s School Westminster for two years and has years of teaching experience prior to that. In her two years as Vice Principal, Saint John’s School has experienced much growth and vitality.
We praise God for providing everything we need to fulfill the mission of the Church here in our STC Community! May God continue to bless this community with growth and vitality.
Stay tuned on information regarding opportunities for our community to meet and greet Mrs. College!

The Church first observed Ember Days in its early centuries. Once each season, the Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday of one week were set apart for to pray, fast, and thank God for the blessings of the season (particularly the crops that yielded oil, bread, and wine), and to pray for priests. (At one time, priests were ordained during Ember Days.)
Ember Days are no longer times of mandatory fasting and abstinence, so they are not on the Church calendar, but observing the tradition of Ember Days is a helpful reminder to:
· Thank God for the gifts He gives through nature.
· Thank God for the priesthood and the gift of the sacraments.
· Pray and sacrifice for vocations to the priesthood.
The next Ember Days, March 12, 14, and 15, occur during the first week in Lent. Perhaps we can include the intention of priestly vocations in our Lenten prayers and sacrifices.

Effective immediately:
In recognition of the various needs of those who attend daily Mass, Fr. Schlaline has decided to celebrate all public Masses in the Church proper- including daily Masses. Why? There have been some daily Masses in Our Lady’s Chapel which were standing room only. We want to ensure that there is always ample room for everyone who wants to attend Mass. (Our Lady’s Chapel will still be used for private Masses and other services.)

From the National Catholic Register: "The movie, which takes its title from the year Margaret Sanger opened the first 'birth-control center' in New York City, aims to expose the truth of Planned Parenthood's devastating impact on our nation. The typical Catholic or Christian in America today is astounded by the dramatic upheaval of traditionally accepted morality and family values, widespread abortion, contraception, divorce, cohabitation, gender confusion and assisted suicide. How did things get so bad? The new documentary, The 1916 Project, goes a long way in answering that question. It explores the chronology of the secular moral revolution and the architects and intentions of our current culture of death." The Holy Name of Jesus Respect Life Ministry will be screening this movie on Sunday, 1/19/25, Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, at 5:30 PM in the St. Bernadine Hall, 6150 Allentown Blvd, Harrisburg. It is PG-13 due to thematic topics.
Attendance is free and donations are welcome.
