When visiting the Basilica our bathrooms are located in the school building. You may enter by using the main entrance to the school or when in the Church you may exit by the right Transept door and enter the school through the side door.
August 15 is an important day in the life of our parish:
No later than 602 AD, this day is set aside to commemorate the Mary’s entrance into Heaven in the Christian Byzantine Empire,
No later than 700 AD, this feast is well established and celebrated in Rome and elsewhere in Western Christendom.
In 1534, the “Society of Jesus” was founded by St. Ignatius Loyola, St. Francis Xavier and five other men. Members of the Society are called “Jesuits” and our parish began as a mission church of the Jesuits.
Is the feast of the Assumption, the namesake of the earlier “Conewago Chapel”
In 1851- Archbishop Francis Kenrick of Philadelphia consecrated our church.
In 1947, India achieved independence from Great Britain. (Our own Deacon Norbert Suresh is from India.)
In 2012, the day that Monsignor George Rost died. He had served as the pastor of the Basilica from 1980-2000.
